ATLANTA, GA - On Tuesday, June 27, 2017, The Counter Narrative Project will unite black gay men and allies to celebrate the legacy of Craig G. Harris and to commemorate National HIV Testing Day (#NHTD) by aligning with partners from around the country to host the I Will Be Heard (#IWillBeHeard) National Day of Action.

I Will Be Heard is a call to action - a collective response to the impact of HIV on the lives of black gay men and the social and structural drivers of the epidemic in our communities. It is also a celebration of the legacy of black gay writer and activist Craig G. Harris.

Craig G. Harris was a self-described "pro-feminist, Afrocentric, gay male writer, community activist and health educator." Craig was the conference coordinator for the 1986 conference on HIV in black communities. In 1986, when he saw that no person of color was invited to participate in the first American Public Health Association plenary on AIDS, Harris, who was living with HIV, stormed the stage shouting "I WILL BE HEARD!"

I Will Be Heard is a time for black gay men and allies to work together in solidarity to address the impact of HIV and other forms of structural violence in their local communities. Activities will include: a podcast (Linda Villarosa discussing her New York Times article America's Hidden HIV Epidemic), a Twitter chat (#IWillBeHeard), a theatre production ( Exposed presented by Brave Soul Collective in Washington, DC) and a community conversation about PrEP (Turning Our Love Into Action presented by CALPEP and the UCSF Center for AIDS Prevention Studies in Oakland, CA).
