Unpacking MPox Mortality: Black Queer Men Living With HIV and the Outsized Impact (Virtual)

Discussing the disproportionate impact of Mpox on Black men living with HIV.

“Of the 38 people who have had a Mpox-related death, in the United States, almost 90% were Black men who had sex with men, and most were also living with HIV.”

This sobering quote is taken from the article "Black Queer Men with HIV: America's Vulnerable Frontline in Mpox Outbreak" by Dr. Deion Hawkins.

While Mpox has seemed to fade from public consciousness, its impact on Black gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men is being revealed.

Why isn't there more reporting on this impact and intersections? How can we protect ourselves from the next outbreak?
