The Counter Narrative Project seeks to build power among Black gay men.
Community building, collective memory and storytelling are indispensable to movement building. We believe in the power of our voices and our stories to inspire social change. We stand in the tradition of Essex Hemphill, Marlon Riggs, Joseph Beam, Craig Harris, Donald Woods, and the Black gay men of the “In the Life” generation. Though our work is focused on Black gay men, and our political autonomy is critical, we also stand in solidarity with and seek to forge coalitions and alliances with other movements working for social justice.
